Housing Mulitple BP'S...

nboles1215 Nov 24, 2006 08:18 PM

Hi All,

I would like to get advice on housing my BP's. I curently have 4.0 BP's and will be purchasing 0.8 by the end of the month. I would like to know where everyone else has their BP's (in the home, heated garage, separate facility etc.) The reason I ask this is because my wife isnt' to crazy about me collecting/breeding these wondeful snakes. So she said that I need to figure out how to separate the family from the snakes. Any advice/photos would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

Nick, Find a way to get your wife interested/involved with the snakes. It may take a while, it did for me, but now my wife has her own Corn snake set up in the den. We know they're tame, but a 2000 gram Ball python looks intimidating to someone that doesn't know. Pick up a baby Corn for the family...they'll come around.

If you get rid of the wife you'll have half a bedroom with space in it?..........right

.......

......have a basement?.......make a room down there and make sure it's sealed tight so no snakes can get out........

.heat the room and get good racks......

.........my room houses 200 to 350 snakes all the time.......it's 11' x 11' ...........make yours bigger........

eventualy she will get used to them.......maybe...good luck!!
Use a rack system, it's a great space saver. Hears a pic of mine that I built. Only spent $65 for the materials and took about 1 and 1/2 hours to build. I,ve had it for over a year now and so far so good. You could try an office/room, spare bedroom or any room so long as you can keep a decent ambient temp. I was lucky in that my wife is really interested in the snakes as well.

got sucked into the hobby by starting with a pet leopard gecko or bearded dragon. They have "cute" personalities like puppies and kittens, and non-herpers can appreciate them more than snakes. I know a lot of women who started with those lizards, and now like all kinds of herps.

Christmas is coming - time for a new pet...?

I wasn't too keen on my boyriends snakes when we moved in together, as a matter of fact I was afraid of them. He was patient enough to teach me about them and answered any questions I had and eventually curiousity got the best of me, and then I spotted a Piebald while he was looking on the message boards and I was hooked. Try taking your wife and/or family to a show. As for the setup for your herps...we have them in one coverted bedroom/den off the living room, tightly sealed, with regulated heat and humidity. It currently houses 36 snakes, 4 of which are over 9 ft. and 2 leopard gecko colonies.
Rack systems seem to be the way to go when space is limited.
Good luck!
