Babie's stomach a little bloated....please help

lil_frogger2 Aug 07, 2003 06:19 PM

4 days ago I bought 2 baby bearded dragons. Recently I've noticed that one of their stomachs looks a little bloated compared to the other one. Does anyone know what this could be? Since I've received them, they each are fed seperately crickets, and they get as much as they can in 10 minutes. Also, there is always a bowl of escarole in their cage, which they love to eat. She also occasionally has some bluberries. They also have alfalfa sprouts and green beans in their bowl, whoch the usually don't eat. I know she's not constapated because she has pooped in her bath today and in her cage. They have a basing spot of about 100-102. And on the other side it's about 80 degrees. I hope I didnt leave any info out..sry if I did. So does anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks

Oh, and this hasn't affected her eating or energy level either.

you need to up your basking temp to at the very least 105 for proper digestion. Have you had fecals done>? sometimes parasites can cause bloating, other then taht you should be offering a variety of greens, escarole is a good one but a base taht is good is collard greens, adding others such as endive, escarole, turnip, dandelion etc. Green beans should be given sparingly as should blueberries. Make sure you keep them well hydrated at this age with misting or baths. what substrate are they on? do you supplement? UVB lighting? just making a check on everything

Hmm...
I had one dragon die due to blockage. She ate some plastic leaves, and after baths and mineral oil she was pooping well. But, I found out too late she was not pooping enough.

First of all, I hope you do not have them on sand. They should be on paper towels or news paper till they are at least 10",that is if you have p. vitticeps and not rankins. Sand will cause impaction.

Secondly, if you feel strongly that the baby is bloated. You can put a couple of drops of mineral oil on its greens to help pass through whatever is causing the blockage. Refer to the 1st paragraph, it doesn't always work.

As reiko stated, raise the temp. and give it spritzs and baths.

Thanks for your help. Yes, they are on paper towels. But I know she's pooping, she pooped in the bath today. And she poops a lot, lol, I htink she might be a little chubby. Thanks. I'll get more greens too.

Oh, and I'm goignto call the vet tomorrow..does anyone have maybe an estimate on how much a fecal check costs? I'm willing to pay, but I kinda wanted an idea...the only place I can find so far is a hospital that is close, but pretty expensive. But I'll see. Thanks
