Care Sheets?

rottenweiler9 Nov 26, 2006 10:52 AM

Anyone know where I can find a care sheet for Monitors. I am possibly getting back into lizards, and I was trying to read the old posts to find some info. If it helps I like the Peach Throat, but I am reading and hearing a lot abou the Ackies, a Blue Tegu is also on my list. Any help to find this info would be good.

Thank you

Jeff

You may find some information if you google peachthroat, karlschmidti, sepik, and jobiensis. There is a little info out there on them, but a lot if it is outdated.

I keep my peachthroats very similar to my dumerils. Peachthroats have sensitive skin that can burn easier than other monitors, so be careful with the basking spot.

Are you looking to get some peachthroats?

Well...

If you try to pick one up it will bite to the bone and scratch you to pieces. They are also escape artists. Other than that, they are great.

Hahahahah, really. They all have that personality? Not really afraid of the escape part but having somthing that nice looking and not be able to take it out well, thats not what I want either. I have the tree boa to look at but they also have a bad wrap, and the anaconda and the retic bad wraps but are OK.

What about Yellow Tree, and Blue Tree monitors and what about Ackies. I have seen a lot of post on them and people say they are great starter monitors. I don't need a huge monitor but I would not mind a small one either. Thoughs would be great.

I would go with ackies, learn the ropes with them, they are a lot more forgiving than peachies. I have four peachies, they are great, but they all will bite pretty readily. I don't think they are aggresive, its just their way. They are also very shy compared to an ackie.

check out our site for caresheets, as well as the FAQ section. monitor husbandry is much more similar than different.

get the Savannah book by Bennett, available at our site or here at the kingsnake classifieds. it has the most current monitor husbandry and theory available in print, and 95% of it applies to all monitor species. an excellent start to building monitor knowledge.

strongly consider the Ackies, they are the overall best choice for a pet monitor, or perhaps even pet lizard period.

Peachies are an awesome midsize monitor, but high quality babies are few and far between. they are a visual animal, but not really a handling/interactive animal.

best of luck!

How big does an Ackie get. I want somthing that gets a little size but being able to handle them is a big part to. I will check out the site.

Thank you for the advise, anymore would be great.
