'Genetics 101' anyone?

ghireptiles Nov 26, 2006 11:52 AM

For those of you that have an interest in the genetics aspect of the herp world what would you think of this...

An imported red 'stonewashed' looking male bred to three different imported red females...all three females produced and all three females had the same looking baby in each litter. I would say coincidence if I had seen animals like this in the past but I haven't, so my guess is that it has something to do with the male. Any thoughts?

Same looking babies from the first two litters. The baby on the left is from the first litter and the baby on the right is from the second litter.

There were two similar babies born in this third litter less than a week ago and this is a pre-shed shot of the two of them.

The pic with the two animals are reversed...the one on the left is from the second litter and the one on the right is from the first litter...

I would say Yes, however with aboreals and other species where color change is a part of life. It may difficult to tell.

The only way to tell would be to breed the F1 siblings back to the parents. If the color remains in the F2 generation than there could be a genetic link to this "stonewashed" trait. Another possible solution could be to breed the male into a female of known genetics and compare the offspring.

These are all guesses, and since ATB genetics are relativly un-established there could be little to no way to tell.

Best of luck

Of course you could sell them to me and I will work the genetic code to save you the time and effort. LOL
