Problem?

Homiachok Nov 26, 2006 08:07 PM

I bought my redtail about a month and a half ago. I has shed twice already and eats with no problems. He is feeding weekly on a large mouse and has not defecated yet. The only thing that came out of him was a white solid. Is there something wrond with the snake or is this normal? Thanks

The white solid is called urate. For ease of explanation is it similar to our urine only in a solid form. There is nothing abnormal about this. I would not worry too much about the snake not deficating, everything sounds fine.
My only suggestion would be to switch him over to rats as that is what he will be eating for the majority of his life. Just offer the appropriately sized rat, probably a larger rat pup would work well.
