reptilelord Nov 27, 2006 05:28 PM

instead of oats would sand work? because i have a small container laying around (about a gallon or a little more) and i have a bag of sand.

They tend to eat the oats, plus it's easier for them to dig through.

well i noticed in the guy who originally posted this had a carrot in his and i have like 20 carrots that are fresh and good i could use, so would sand work if i have another source of food?

Remember that anything your insects eat, your gecko eats. You don't want him eating sand.

A 6 month supply of store brand oatmeal is less than $1 at our local shop, just go get some.

good point i will go to the drug fair tomorrow which is right next to the pet store where i can get a ton of meal worms. can a meal worm scale a 7 inch plastic container? i know its small but i had it laying around and i figured it would be adequate for about a months supply at a time, or at least a few week supply.

That original guy is me.

i use chick feeed for young ducks and chickens and find it to be very good. This is what an older man that i know uses to raise mealworms in. He uses them as bait.

I wouldn't use sand. You want to keep worms in gutload, which will double as their bedding, and crickets need something like paper towels/eggcrate to hide in, and readily available gutload to eat.

remember, everything your feeders eat, your gecko eats. You want to feed your insects the best quality gutload that you possibly can, whether you make it or buy it. Trust me, it will make a HUGE difference to your leo...

for example: would you rather eat an eggroll full of cabbage and meat and other veggies, or would you rather eat just the fried eggroll wrapper? Which is going to fill you up better? Which is going to give you more nutrients and energy?
