female does not seem interested

riddick13 Nov 27, 2006 07:16 PM

I got my hypo male in with my normal female. they were locked up for about a week, but for the last week and a half they have not locked up again. from last night to tonight they are on different sides of the cage. she pretty much stays right under the heat light. it does look like she has swelled around the vent area and she ate on pretty small rat for the first time in about a month. she's about 7 foot and she seems to be swollen on the last 1/3 of her body. she has not shed yet. any opinions on if she could become gravid being lock up for only one week would be great. any opinions or replies would be great. thanks in advance.

She could be pregnant, but she may also just have ovulated (they swell when they ovulate). If the male doesn't seem interested any more, try taking him out for one or two days and putting him back. Someone suggested this to me when my male hog island stopped showing interest after only being with the female for a week - and it worked like a charm.

Usually it takes several weeks to make sure the male has had a chance to deposit enough sperm - better to leave him in with her for longer than take the chance of having a nice big litter of unfertilized slugs....
