Okay guys, I was taking some more photos last night to see how everybody is progressing. I have noticed that the area where the carapice joins the plastron is not smooth, but lumpy. It has been like that for as long as I can remember, but I don't know why. Any thoughts?

My Florida came to me with severe shell rot. I should have photographed it last spring when I got her, but I was more concerned about getting her well. You can see the pits that were left. There was a lot of dead tissue that my vet had to clean out. I'm lucky she pulled through, I really thought I was going to lose her. The red on her plastron is stain from the wood chips that she was kept on.

Here is the last photo. Trish loves her nightcrawlers and will sit up and beg for them. She is such a sweety.

Neat looking pictures. Thanks for sharing! It tickles me that you've rescued box turtles that are all non-native to your area. It sounds like soon you'll be able to rescue an Eastern! You're little family is a lesson in multiculturalism...look to the turtles! just kidding

Yes, I've got quite a varied troup don't I. Strange how they all found me!

My theory is that people like us who end up with these various critters all have a sign on our roof that only animals can read & it says to them
"Need help? Stop here!"

That's how we got our lovebird, she wouldn't leave our backyard. It took us 3 weeks to catch her, she's wily and wouldn't fall for our ploys but on the other hand she wouldn't leave here either.
Good thing we did catch her because by the time we did & I took her to the vet the next day the vet said she was on the brink of starving to death.
I just know that she read that sign on the roof. LOL

I thought later after I posted that.. wait a minute the turtles can't read signs on the roof.. that's too high up for them.
Must be some signs only they can read at ground level too. LOL

That lumpiness makes me wonder if at some point in time there had been a slight break in the shell & then it healed improperly. That's just a guess.
Nice pictures though!

Thanks for the idea. I'll have to ask the vet the next time I take her in. I've never seen anything like it and have wondered about it, but always forget to ask!!
