Ornate breeding size/weight?

Kayvon Nov 27, 2006 09:32 PM

Hello everyone. I have enjoyed reading all the posts for some time now. I have learned alot just by "listening in". I don't try and answer questions because I only have one young pair of ornates and am still learning myself. For the most part I am a snake guy but I felt like the kids lives would be further enriched by a lizard or two in the house as well. (Can you believe my wife fell for that line. Just kidding. I just showed up with them. Easier to ask for forgiveness that permission, right?)
My male is nine inches and 80 grams and the female is eight and a half inches and 72 grams. They are about two years old. The male has very active femoral pores. The female hates me. (I just through that in for no good reason) They eat great. I have the ability to cool them but if they are too small I don't want to risk it. Any advice would be great.
Also, I would like to throw out a general "Thank You" to the regulars that answer everyones questions with such detail. It is nice to see a group of people so willing to help each other out. Alot of breeders of infrequently kept animals really hold their cards close and don't like to share. You seem like a great group of herpers.

So many times the forum gets these questions & I wish the breeders would get more involved.
I think 2 years for Ornates is borderline but doable. 3 years is much better. Prenatal diet seems to be to largest factor. If Mama ain't happy, neither will be the eggs.
