lighting/heating questions

nycguy Nov 27, 2006 10:47 PM

I just got a dumeril's boa, along with a vision cage and a ESU Bi Light. The problem I'm concerned about is that the temperature in my apartment can fluctuate, especially as the winter months close.

I have sun-glo and night-glo lamps that I suppose I can hook a timer to, but I'm actually wondering if there's a better/more cost effective way. I already have a heat pad under 1/3 of the tank that's on 24/7. Are ceramic heat emitting bulbs a good way to go?

Also, could you recommend brands along with the method? Thanks!

I use ESU ceramic heat lamps 24/7 with a pair of Boas. They are in a separate room (quarantine) of my house, which stays pretty cool during the winter. With my Dumeril's, I only use her heat pad at night, on a timer. My snake room gets warm enough during the day for her . At night I like to provide her with a little heat if she chooses to use it.

Don't forget that temps are supposed to drop at night, so are you sure a ceramic heat emitter is necessary 24 hours a day?
