Making awesome photography backgrounds

morphbreeder Nov 27, 2006 11:08 PM

1-Buy panes of glass about 1/8"-1/4" in thickness and whatever size you want the glass to be. I use 24" by 24" and 1/8" thickness

2-find any cool color spray paint you like at your local home improvement store.

3-spray several coats on ONE SIDE ONLY to get an even cover

4-your done, use the non-painted side to put your snakes on for awesome photos without any costly fabrics and you don't have to deal with background flaws and defects.

I have some primary glass backgrounds that I use to bring out the true color of my morphs.
-White
-Black
-Pewter metalic
-Sandstone speckled ( made by American accents )
-Cobalt blue *great for high contrast albinos*
-Copper metalic
-Chrome metalic for a mirror effect
the list goes on and on

Give it a shot. It hardly costs anything, highly effective, no messing with contrast or brightness to eliminate other background flaws i.e cloth folds and the reflectivness of the flash when used on dark fabrics. Hundreds of colors can be used ranging in price from $1-$9 for each spraypaint can. Note the textured American accent paints are the most expensive at about $8 a can.

Great ideas, thanks!

As an artist, I'd also like to mention that color choice plays an important role and can be used to your advantage.

If you really want to make your snake's colors pop, use the his/her color's complement as a background. For those unfamiliar, complementary colors pair as follows:

-Blue and orange
-Red and green
-Purple and yellow

For example, if you want the yellow to stand out on your lovely, then use purples in the background. Because most of the yellow coloring is golden-orangish, blue will also work. This is why the cobalt blue looks so great with the high contrast albinos.

Just make sure that the background color is not so bright and intense that it blinds the eyes more than it pleases them.
