It's a California Kingsnake.
There's four other eggs that also should start pipping any minute now.

I was a little worried about that egg - it really started to cave in about 2 weeks ago, and nothing I did made it pop back - to see it pip was a big relief.

How long ago were the eggs laid? Talk about a late season hatch! Congrats!

Copulation took place on August 8th.
Eggs laid on September 28th.

Yes - a very late season clutch.

Male - WC (Antioch, East Contra Costa County, CA locale) normal banded.
Female - CB Albino banded.

I'll try to get good pics of the parents later.

She laid 12 eggs. 7 died due to my mistake. I tried to use coconut fiber which worked well for my alligator lizard eggs. One went bad, I wasn't too alarmed. Then others started to go bad - I checked, the coconut fiber was way way way too wet - I immediately got some virmiculite and did 1:1 by weight - and the eggs stopped going bad. But it was too late for 7 of them.

So no more using coconut fiber for me.

Congrats on the survivore and file that as experience. It is well that you shared the c-nut fiber thing, the more info the better.

One of the many, many reason I love it there!!!

Congrats on the clutch - some are always better than none!
Is the sire to this clutch the really cool looking one?? If I remember right, he had a really nice sort of banded pattern, and he was sort of thin when you got him back.....

Let us know how things pan out.

Here's the father (taken today):

Here's the mother (taken about 2 months ago)

The thin interesting patterned king I have that I think you are talking about is a young ~ 26 inch female.

Other than the eggs - she's my only king I'm not brumating at the moment - turned out she had a hookworm. It's been treated, but vet wants another two fecal floats. I'm keeping her warm and trying to feed her, but she knows its time to shut down and has stopped eating - so I might have to cool her and tell the vet he has to wait for spring for the fecal floats.

Gonna have to add 5 new neonate Kings to the animals in your signiature list. Definitely keep us posted on their development, esp. the ease or difficulty w/ which you get them to eat. I've heard baby Cals can be a bit peculiar in their eating habits.

She (I'm guessing she but haven't even touched her yet) is out:

None of the other four eggs have not pipped yet.
They are a different sterilite - same incubator, but a little farther from the heating element.
