Hi Uroplatus fanatics

GeckosByBrad Feb 07, 2003 08:45 PM

Hi,
I keep and breed, U.phantasticus, U. lineatus, U. lineatus, U. henkeli, U. fimbriatus, and U. ssp. My group of U. ebenaui all passed away this month for unkown causes. Does anyone have U. guentheri? Also has anyone bred U. fimbriatus? I hope we get some good information going.
Everyone needs U. ssp., they are awsome!

wow! nice little lineatus... i've always liked those guys...

i am working on breeding fimbriatus this season...my adult female may be gravid now, but we will see. my henkeli just started breeding for this season, and i still have some of the later eggs from last season still incubating.

which of your uroplatus species have you bred successfully so far?

here's another pic of one of my newest hatchlings...i think he was trying hard to be a lineatus, but didn't quite make it

take care,
kelly

Hi,

Nice henkeli. I have bred most of the species, but getting good eggs is hard. I think that GOOD stud males are the hardest part of Uroplatus breeding. Many males don't care if the get "some", and others are all about it. I have hatched U. lineatus and henkeli and have grown them. I have some GOOD U. ssp eggs cooking as well. I get eggs out of my Phants but all are duds, I need some STUD males. I hope you hatch some fim.'s out! How do you set yours up?

thanks...i'm glad you like the little guy. he is one of 8 henks i have hatched out this season, and he is by far the most striking
my henkeli breeder male is amazing...he has been breeding non-stop since last spring and has kept 3 female henks gravid, as well as trying to breed a fibriatus too! he escaped from his cage and somehow found his way into the fim's cage! i don't know if any eggs will result, but you never know...

congrats on the U ssp. eggs...those are awesome geckos!

i have my fims set up in large screen and pvc cages that i originally built for chameleons, then comverted to uro cages by covering the back and two sides with sheets of plastic to hold in more humidity. the cages are at least 2x3x4 for a single or a pair...for my henks, i have one pair in a display terrarium, and another 2 females in a screen cage like i use for the fims.

how about yours? how do you have them set up?

I use tanks for all of my set-ups. I use bed a beast for the substrate. I get the best results with breeding when cages arent over done. I think plants are good. I think that they need lots of hiding places but not so many to the point the never see each otehr and dont find all of their food. Congrats on your baby henkeli. I have always heard that striped babies will be a female. Thats how it is with lineatus also.
I think that having their natural habitat as close to their tanks set up is benefitial. Like lineatus=bamboo forest.

How is the care of the Fimbriatus compared to other Uros (I'm familiar with the Sikorae mainly) ... I've always wanted to see a 12" leaf-tail in person!

the care of u. fimbriatus is similar to that of henkeli, although they seem not to be quite as hardy. they would need higher temps than the sikorae, and much larger housing, of course!
mine do well within a temperature range of 72-78 during the daytime, with the average temp being around 75-76. at night they drop down into the high 60's. they like humidity of at least 60%, with more being better. they are more shy than my henks, too.

of the dozens of species i have kept, they are my all-time favorite reptiles...i am really hoping to be able to breed them this year...

you hear a lot about how large and impressive fimbriatus are, but the first time you see a big one in person it just blows you away! my largest is 12", but she is still a young adult with growing potential. the other 2 i have are still juvies, although they have grown from 7" to 10" in the past 3 months! the largest one i have seen was nearly 15". they are absolutely awesome.

U. fimbriatus should have the same care requirements as U. sikorae. The only difference would be cage size. They're ranges are sympatric (the same) and were once thought to be the same species (strangely). I only keep U. sikorae but I see no reason why fimbriatus should be kept at any different temps than you would keep sikorae.

Hi,
Fim.'s like and need it cool. They are more delicate than henkeli by far. They need a large cage and lots of hiding and VERY high humididty. Then again I have never received any NICE U. sikorae(besides the ones Robert will be sending me -LOL) so I have given up on them a few 100 dollars later. They eat a lot as well.

Uroplatus ssp. are really cool. I have a male and are currently looking for a female to breed them. I got mine from Aquarium stuffers they were really helpful and nice offered a good price($114) and had him wormed and a 7 day guarrantee but they don't seem to be getting them in anymore do you know a place where I could get a female.
