bad shed. help.

uaxhuh Nov 28, 2006 08:54 PM

ok ive got a 3 inch leopard gecko, and he just had a bad shed. ive helped him get most of his dead skin off by putting him in a humidity chamber (tupperware with damp paper towels). but theres this one piece thats like a wristband around one of his legs that just wont come off. it was yesterday when he shed, so today is the first day since his bad shed. ive tried the humidity chamber, ive tried the wet q tip, any other ideas out there to get a wristband of dead skin off of his wrist before anything bad happens? and thats another thing: will the skin cut off the circulation to his hand, causing his hand to die and fall off?

any help, please?

keep at it with the q-tip and chamber, even soak it a bit in water. It does need to come off soon.

soon as in tonight? or over the next few days?
because the poor guy seems so stressed about today, hes been awake all day cuz weve been working his skin off. can this wait til tomorrow?

Why wait and prolong his stress over the comming days? The sooner done, the less stressed he'll be over time. I say get 'er done.

keep working on it. If it just won't come of try again in a day.

I recently had a crested gecko with the exact problem. However, this was about 2 months ago that I noticed the ring around the upper part of his arm. I thought it would be fine to let it go and hope that it would take care of itself.
Checking on the geckos last week, I found this gecko still had the ring and it was tight around it's arm!
As this was restricting, I decided to take immediate action with an exacto knife. A half hour later, with lots of patience, the ring was off. The crested was very tired afterward after initially fighting me quite a bit.

Take care of the skin now. I wouldn't recommend pulling it off yourself- especially around the mouth and eyes area. The "humidor" treatment is probably best with a luke warm bath helpful.

Good luck
