Island of the Sea Snakes

AndrewFromSoCal Nov 29, 2006 11:19 AM

We've all seen it on Animal Planet/Discovery. It's the island where the snakes go to breed. I'm trying to do a report on them, and i'd really like to have a picture of the island.

Question: Does anyone remember what it's called? I've tried searching everything I can think of, and all I come up with is some Ukranian look out post. :

I might have saved you a lot of embarrasment, and grief if you would have followed through with a report on the wrong island........It seems that there are many islands in the world nick-named "Snake Island". I think the one you are interested in is known as "Kalampunian Tiga", which is the smallest of three islands off the coast of Borneo. This is of the episode that I also saw where Jeff Corwin is grabbing all the sea snakes in all the rocks surrounding the island,..... correct? I also know the one that you referred to off the coast of the Ukrain and Romania, although there might be some snakes on it possibly, I don't think this is the one you want. I believe the snakes you are talking about are the "Yellow-Lipped Sea Krait"(Laticauda colubrina)...... If you type in on "Google" the above mentioned island, you will see many "hits" on the subject, and should be able to find a suitable picture of it as well.........hope this helped.......good luck...............Doug

Wasn't doing a report on the island, just sea snakes in general. Being as Laticaudids are the only sea snakes that are oviparous, this would be the correct island. Thanks!
