Hey i was asking about the west african gaboon viper a couple of days ago. A friend of mine who lives in indiana has a venemous collection and one of his suppliers has a gravid female. he sad that he would sell me a pair of hatchlings for $150.00(plus im building him a custom cage for his emerald tree boa)

my question is, what would be a suitible size cage for a pair. I plan on buildng the cage pretty qick and i want it to be able to house them when they are adults. For my coppers, the woode cages that i built for them have the space equal to a 20 gallon long aquarium. They are in seperate cages. I have read numerous care shets for the gabbys but nothing i have read says anything about adequate space for them. Thanks in advance

Anthony

i keep all my neonates in rubbermaids. i think an enclosure about the size of a 20gallon long would be more than adeqaute for a year or two. if they are cb babies $150 is a pretty fair price to me as cb is so much better than everything else. go ahead and build a cage like you keep your coppers in. make sure it will hold an adequate amount of humidity though.

good luck gaboons are AWESOME

Well all my adults are kept in cages no less then 6ft by 3ft..... Vision cages are great but not for small snakes..... Too many places they can hide..... For my huge pair I built an 8 by 4.... I used regular 1/2 inch plywood and glued FRP board to it with liquid nails to keep it water proof..... It is not that they need all that space for them..... It is more of a safty thing..... You need lots of room to work with big adults..... I never use rubbermaids for hots but that is just me..... $150 is a very good price if they are realy cb.... For that price they are usually farmed neonates..... I would still have them vet checked or atleast get a stool sample done..... Good luck..... Once you get a gaboon you will be hooked....LOL
