Peach Throats

herper79 Nov 30, 2006 09:59 PM

Any one in here keeping or breeding peachies? I took one in that had a thermal burn and it is healing up. Not sure if I really want to keep it. Here is a pic when I first took it in. Looks like someone left the heat lamp in the cage un-covered.

Looks like it is healing nicely.

That can happen when the ambient temps of the cage are too low and a high wattage spot lamp is used. Keep the ambient temps stable and use a bank of lower wattage bulbs (2-3) and it shouldn't happen again.

This is common with peachies, doreanus, melinus, etc.

This is what it is looking like lately. I was treating it by soaking in betadine every 3 days, and keeping the cage and water really clean. It is a pretty smart animal and cool looking, but I am more of a mellow savannah and snake guy.

Darn...

That is a horrible burn. They have very sensitive skin and will burn when other monitors wont. At least you have it healing. What are you going to do with it since you are not sure if you are going to keep it?

My permananent rescue that broke the 55 gal tank it was kept in by previous owner. Also obese from being fed dog food only. I am working on getting it more exersize. It actually enjoys harness walks. The human holding it could also use some exersize...

Thanks guys, I think we should all try to help out an animal like this if we can. We owe it to them.
