WilliamBlake Nov 30, 2006 10:20 PM

hi, i bought a bd (approx. 14 in) 3 days ago. my only complaint is that he has'nt passed anything yet.
thus far i have fed him
-15 md crickets
-20 meal worms
-2, 3finger pinches of diced greens
-1, 3finger pinch of squash

ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.

Try soaking it in a little bit of mildly warm water for about 15 min. it'll usually help loosen it up.

It could be impaction, mealworms can cause it, stress from being moved into a new home can do it also. I would cut out the mealworms and definitely cut out the pinky mice. Piny mice should only be fed to adult dragons and even then, very rarely.

What are your basking temps and what is your substrate? Loose substrates such as sand, calcium based sands and crushed walnuts can cause impaction, sometimes even severe cases of impaction. As you bought your dragon from a petstore, what substrate did they use? If they had the dragon on a bad substrate for weeks, it could have ingested a whole bunch of it before being sold to you. IF the basking temp isn't high enough, this can greatly affect digestion, which may be why your dragon has not pooed lately.

Soaking in warm water (about 70-75F) for 10-20 minutes a couple times a day will help move things along. Some mineral oil (about a quarter teaspoon once a day for a couple days or till he poos), pureed or finely grated carrots, summer squash (cooked), sweet potato, about a teaspoon per meal for a day or two, will also help move things along.

If none of the above suggests cause him to poo over the next couple days, best to take him to a vet to check for a more serious impaction.
