I found an adult Ptychozoon in my area which has been seemingly difficult to find. I was easily able to sex it as a male once I got it home. I wanted him to have a companion because, although he (Swiffer) was healthy, he seemed a bit depressed even in the cool new vivarium. I desperately sought an adult female since I had read that keeping 2 males together would result in a fight to the death. I searched for a while and just about ready to give up, I found another Ptychozoon and it was a healthy adult girl! I bought it immediately, but when I got home I was disappointed to find some physical differences, so I researched them. I discovered that my male appears to be P. Lionatum and my female is likely P. Kuhlii. I figured that they may never breed, but since they seemed quite happy with each others company, I was fine with that.
Now about a month or 2 later... I find that I have an egg glued to the upper corner of my tank looking like a small marshmallow. Does anyone know if it actually stands a chance of hatching out? It has been very hard to find detailed info on this species, especially where breeding, eggs, and raising young are concerned. I am not sure on any special temperature or humidity needs for the egg. I have read that I should leave the egg alone and protect it somehow, but with what? I also read that it will take 3 months to hatch. Does that seem accurate? Since I heard that they usually lay 2 eggs, am I just looking at a protective outer sac with 2 eggs inside or is she (Ruffles) just not done yet? I truly hope this egg will hatch because I would like the opportunity to try to raise the baby to be a bit more tame than the parents who were probably wild caught. Any help will be appreciated!
