Boa Color Question

graynightblue Dec 01, 2006 05:33 PM

I have a female Boa Constrictor and I have a question on her color. Her sides are VERY red and I was wondering if it is a normal thing or what. My two other Boas are much darker with no where near that kind of red. It is on her sides and a bit on her belly. I tried to capture it the best I could and to close the blinds and use the flash seemed to catch it as close to corectly as I could. Take a look at the pics and please tell me what you think.

And a tail shot just for refrence.

Normal colors are; red, tan, brown and black
The degrees vary, so a snake may lean more towards 1 or 2 colors, more than others. Some are selectively bred to bring out certain colors.

Thank you very much for the response. I am wondering about her because my GF and I are in a position where we need to get rid of some of our babies. Her and two more red tails plus a burmese that we rescued. We have snakes for the love of them not for any particular collectability. Now with moving to a smaller place, working alot and having to get my GF her own car for commuting we find ourselves having to part with most of our kids. We do not, unfortunately, know their worth except to us as our children. If anyone could give me some feedback on what you all think, or if you could suggest a place where I may be able to find out more, we would greatly appreciate it. I'm going to post pictures of our other two red tails.

This is Odin, he's the spaz of the trio.

This next one is Midnight. He is the most gentle of snakes I have ever encountered.

And of course our burmese, Corey, so he doesn't feel left out...

Thank you all and have a great evening!

I wouldn't call her a pastel, but she is in that area of grey between pastel and normal. I can see why some would call her a pastel, she certainly had the beautiful pink color. She is mighty pretty regardless. You could make some killer pastels with her.
