Breeding 550 gm Male Het for Lav Albino?

balls4all Dec 01, 2006 09:05 PM

I was hopig to get some input here!
I have a 66% het for lavender albino male that is a 05 hatch. I initially had planned to breed him as late in the season as I could to get his weight above 750gm. I have been finding sperm plugs in his tub and am very motivated to get a possible clutch from him this season. So even though I know he should be a minimum of 750 gm , I put him in with a female to observe his reaction and he seemed to be trying to court the female. I left him with the female and today they are locked up . The question is how maany of you have been successful with a young male and what was the lowest weight male that produced a viable clutch. Thanks

you should have a good chance at being successful.

if that was an 06 male I'd say you need to put on at least a couple hundred more grams but with it being an 05 there's a pretty good chance of you being successful. Age seems to have alot to do with breeding just as much as added weight. We all know a 1500g 18 month old female can breed and give good eggs but not much lower than 1500 for young females. However, we also know that 3-5 year old females that weigh 1200 will produce eggs alot more consistantly than those younger heavier females.

now to answer your question youngest snake to breed for me was a corn at 3.5 months and sired 3 clutches, youngest and smallest ball to breed was a 5 month old spider that weighed 358g pic is of him the day we brought him home.
