Panther hasnt eaten in 2 weeks.vet time?

mountainlion Dec 01, 2006 09:26 PM

Hey everyone...wondering if anyone's cham has stopped eating for extended period of time and what I should do?

My 1 yr old panther hasn't shown one bit of interest in food for 2 weeks now. I gotta say he was on the plump side before he stopped eating. He is still drinking a lot everyday and is very active (he free roams the room but hangs out near his cage with the lights most of the day). He has only defecated twice since he stopped, 1cm with a lot more urinate.

He's done this once before, but it only lasted 1 week.

The only things I can think of are:
Possibly he's impacted (might put some mineral oil down his mouth tomorrow).
It's starting to get cold where I live and along with the light change maybe it's just a seasonal thing happening?

Now that this has gone on for two weeks I'm getting concerned. He's still really active, likes to roam the room a lot).

We had warm weather out the past couple days so I stuck him in the sun for a bit, but still no interest (he used to go outside 3-4 times a week until the last month and half or so).

Suggestions please?

Background Info:
Cham free roams the room, but is cup fed
Mostly eats gutloaded(kale and wildeye reptiles mix) crickets, superworms, 1 waxworm a day, sometimes a butterworm.
Has fresh reptisun bulb, adequate heating and misting system at his cage. Gets herpitive 1-2 times a week, and crix dusted in spirilina once a week.

I forgot to add: I bought a couple large silk worms last weekend, still didn't want that. (he grew up eating them, but I only get them as treats now since their a pain to keep).

I also left out he also gets reptical once a week.

Thanks again for any replies.

I've had several of my male Panther Chams stop eating for a week or two at a time. They start thinking about mating and just forget to eat. I usually don't worry about them. Green prey items can sometimes bring them around, such as the giant hormworms. Chams will sometimes eat the great big ones, but those in the range of an inch to 2 inches are probably preferred. Give those a try. Waxworms and superworms can also be good. If he doesn't eat in another week, I would take him to the vet because he is also missing his Calcium.

Can you give more information about how you keep him (basking temperature, etc.) and what you feed him please? Do you gutload the insects? With what? Do you supplement/dust them? With what? Does he have a UVB light placed so the light doesn't pass through glass or plastic?

Did you even bother to read my post?

He finally ate crix today, I'm relieved.
