Yes, the photograph of the juvenile used for the centerfold pull-out poster certainly did look like hell, and both a poor choice by the magazine editors, and a poor representative of such a magnificent species.
I also agree that the article itself did not mention much in the way of temperment or tolerances, something which I think the August 2006 Green Tree Monitor article did an excellent job of, despite the contradictory caption the magazine placed on the magazine cover ("must have monitor"
. I felt that the August article did a good job of trying to deter impulse-buying hobbyists who want a colorful, "pet-quality" monitor which they can play with and handle just like their bearded dragons or leopard geckos.
