Toes catching?

chimbakka May 20, 2003 06:59 PM

I have read that aluminum window screen can cause problems with toes catching. Is this more likely for males than females, because males are larger? Or does it happen a lot for both? I am thinking about using aluminum screen instead of hardware cloth for Orion's cage, but if there is a really big risk I will use something else.
I'll appreciate all the input I can get... THANKS!

I did have a male lose a toenail and he was in a screen cage but I have not used screen again for my chams. His nail was bent back when I found him and I can't even say it was from the screen because I did not actually see it happen but he was not full grown and was probably the size of a grown female. the toenail fell off several days later and he showed no signs of problems but I have not used screen since. I use a product found at home depot that looks like hardware cloth but its made of plastic. The holes do not hold in bugs or moisture very well so it has drawbacks also. Hope I helped some anyways.

first off, only DWARF AND PYGMY TYPES can live in an aquarium - if you are housing a baby cham, buy a new top with metal bars running across it
otherwise your cham can sever its toes and die

Sorry, I'm a bit confused... She's a juvie, but her new home isn't going to be an aquarium, it's a cage. It's going to be 5' tall by 3'wide by 2' deep. What will sever her toes on? the screen? Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you meant.. please fill me in because if there is something I am overlooking I want to consider it. Thanks!
PS If not aluminum screen what should I use that will keep crickets in and toes not catching? Thanks
