Thayeri Kingsnake Questions

jl1981 Dec 02, 2006 01:29 PM

I am thinking about getting a thayeri. A few questions:

-Where do they occur in the wild?
-How "handleable" are they?
-Can they give you a bad bite? Any worse of a bite than a corn? Are they usually good tempered?

Thanks!!!

Thayeri are from Mexico.
they are very easy to handle.
I personaly think a corn bites harder. I don't really notice when my thayeri's bite. Usually only the babies tend to bite.
In my opinion they are very good natured.
Hope this helps,
take care

Michelle is right they originate from the Nuevo Leon region in Mexico.
My experience is that thayeri kingsnakes are the best snakes on the market as far as being able to handle them. They almost seem to enjoy being handled. The babies are the ones that tend to poop or vibrate their tails. They quickly grow out of that when handled with some frequency. I've never had a thayeri intentionally bite me. I've had them strike at a mouse that I'm feeding them but they always quickly let go.

They are very very nice and beautiful snakes to own.

Were there any bad effects from the bite, or was it just a couple of pin pricks? Any different than a bite from ny other king or corn?

No there are no effects from the bite of a thayeri. I wouldn't say they leave pin pricks either. They have very small teeth probaly some of the smallest you will ever see, I consider there mouth to be rough for lack of a better term, but they don't leave anything like pin pricks. From personal experience cal kings and corns bite harder than thayeri. Their bite is really not a noticable thing. I personally don't find they even inflict pain when they bite.
Hope this helps.
