Mex Mex........

MichelleRogers Dec 02, 2006 01:33 PM

I got a trio this year from Mark Kendrine. These are the 2 females, the male is in shed right now so I will have to post him at a later date. I really like the mex mex and I wish more people would take an interest in them, they are beautiful in their own rite.
thanks for looking

Those are really nice. I picked up a pair of mex-mex recently from Tony Mangini that are much darker than yours. I'll post pics when I get a chance. I also have a female mex-mex coming soon from Ric Blair's black line. I hear these start out looking normal, then go really dark as they near breeding age.

Here they are. The male is huge for an '06

Thanks Michelle,

This pair is my first step into mex-mex. I've kept mostly mountain kings, alterna, thayeri, and triangulum. I reduced my collection down to thayeri only a few years back, but now feel like I want to branch out into other mexicana.

Those pits you posted are tempting though! Gophers are one of the most commonly found wild snakes around here (OR), and in my old home of AZ too.

Nice pair, congrats once again. That female was one I had my eyes on along with a couple of laterally speckled, split-saddled beauties. Mex mex may eventually get the respect they deserve.

Congrats on taking the mex mex plunge Greg! You made a good decision buying from Tony. As far as classic mex mex go, his are superb and you couldn't hope to do business with a more respectable person than him. I bought a group of five from him last year and cherry picked a pair of females from that group to keep. The bunch he produced this year was so nice I nearly bought another group of ten from him to pick through.

The two '05 females here are doing extremely well and are also very large for yearlings. You will also be happy to know that these two females began turning black very early, and one in particular has exceptionally nice saddle color for a female. I think you will be more than pleased with your new pair. At Tony's prices I think his mex mex are a real bargain.

Tony was great to deal with, and had really reasonable prices.

After culling my collection back to Thayeri only a few years back, I decided to do something new. Jim Sargent at Split Rock Reptiles is holding a female black phase mex-mex for me, so soon I'll have a trio.

Next.......Greeri!

mexicanamak Dec 03, 2006 10:58 AM

I saw Jim's clutch this year, very very nice. Many of them nice and dark right out of the egg from what I could see. I'm curious now which female you chose, she has to be a winner.

Greeri now eh? You're getting sucked in! But you won't be sorry if you've never kept greeri before. They are some of the most relaxed and enjoyable snakes I've had the pleasure of caring for, in my opinion the calmest of the mexicana complex. I miss the group I had but..........

I NEEDED MORE THAYERI AND A HUGE MEX MEX FIX!!!

Congrats on the latest mex mex additions Michelle! They're nearly as addicting as thayeri once you get rolling with a few aren't they? Out of my entire collection I think my mex mex group are the best natured of them all and they have exceptionally good appetites to boot.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Hey Michelle...

Always here, I've just been busy here preparing the critters for a long rest and putting them to bed. Thanksgiving was fantastic and I hope yours was too! Thanks for the well wishes!

I did notice your pit interest and remember you telling me about them, from what you tell me and what I notice in some of the recent photos posted they really do seem like quite the inquisitive creature. Not to mention mighty cool looking! I've always had an interest and you can bet that if I had the space and a little more time I'd have a few..... dozen.

We had a wonderful thanksgiving I got more pits and my husband went hunting..lol.. so all was happy.
the pits are very addicting. out of them all i find i like the southern pines the best, they are totally laid back. The bulls and gopher tends to be nippy still, but calming down. the southerns just calm down and lay in your hand, they seem to be really growing on me. You will have to make space and try them. They are really cool snakes and watch your every move.
take care

Last year I bought a supposed "Proven" pair, and they turned out to be 2.0. Fortionately they are both healthy screamers. My problem now is finding someone willing to part with an adult female or two. I definitely think that Mex-Mex are way under rated. Good to see that interest is growing in them. Thanks for the pics Michelle. You have a really nice collection of Thayeri and Mex-Mex.

I am glad to find there are fellow mex mex fans out there.
Maybe soon they will make a come back. I hope to have some breeding by 2008. I have a male subadult and a female subadult. Hopefully they will produce by 2008. The male is from Reptile Ranch when Laura used to have the lemke breeders and the female is from Mark K. I have 2 other females that i bought last year one was a slow starter but has picked up nicely. I will have to try and get some pics. Right now i am at 2.5.
take care and thanks again.
