paper towels or slate?

reptilelord Dec 02, 2006 02:13 PM

i have paper towels over the sand in my tank and i intend to remove the sand soon, but i have just dug up two large pieces of slate. should i use paper towels or slate as a permanent substrate? and would my under tank heat pad work with either of them?

well your gunna have to play around a little. with paper towels your heater may get too hot and with slate it may get to cold. i cant remember at the moment what i used to do when i had that problem but its something to think about. sorry i was of no help.

all personal preference. Slate does look better but papertowels are asier to clean. if you are worried about heat variation with your heat pad run it thru an exteral power outlet with a dimmer switch attached. ask an electrician about this if you are not quite sure.

I used paper towels for the first 3 months. It wasn't bad. Slate isn't bad either. I have a light on for the normal day/night cycle of my area, because it's been getting way cold out.

Slate is easy to find, assuming you live in the civilized US. There are Home Depots everywhere.
