chuck dosent like walmart vegis!!

bobngale Dec 02, 2006 03:02 PM

It winter and I have a problem; the only way i've got chuck to eat is just letting him go in my yard and watching him graze. Or transplanting his favorite plants into the cage. He also gladly takes dandelions from anyone. But they are all hard to find after the first freeze. So i’ve been looking for dandelion seeds along with other wild native plants to the dessert so I can grow them right in Chuck’s cage.
Is that a good idea?
Dose anyone know where I can buy some seeds for planting?
Or any other food sources?

Dandelion seed colleting is a tedious process, and I don’t think its good on your back. Not to mention the strange looks you get from people.

Aren't the seeds the fuzzy white things that kids pick and blow (spreading through the hood)

kids do, but when an adult dose it in the middle of city park, well we look like stagering drunks.

I can see the police report already.

Suspect arrested 10:00 am in City Park apparently intoxicated.
Suspect tested 0.00 BAC.
All suspects’ pockets filled with a strange white substance.
Believed to be crank or asbestos or something.
Waiting test results.

I hope you have a very large cage because a normal size chuck can eat an entire plant (average 10 leaves 1" by 6" long) in one sitting. I have tried growing dandelions indoors and have found it very difficult because of how long it takes and the amount they eat. I would try many different fresh veggies and even frozen mixed veggies. If you have the proper heat gradient it should take some of those. I have had success even with wild caught on frozen veggies.(thawed of course) Good luck! By the way, chucks slow down their eating in the winter months and may not even eat for a week at a time.
