Ben, it looks like that marbled is growing incredibly fast.

Hey, just curious...do you have a 4X2X2 cage and an 8x2x2 cage from ap?

Ben_renick Dec 03, 2006 08:18 PM

Nice to hear from ya again E4! Yeah, the marble is growing pretty fast, should be ready to breed this season! Her feeding has been slowing down dramatically lately, so it's looking pretty good! I don't have any 4x2x2 or 8x2x2, most of my ap cages are T13 (4'x30"x18", T25 (6'x30"x18", T50 (7'x30"x18", T65 (8'x30"x18", and T70 (8'x36"x2'), why do you ask?
Thanks!
Ben R.

WHOA! Ok, let me ask ya this. When she was around 24-29 months of age did you happen to notice a decline in rapid length growth and a increase in girth growth? I ask because Nefertiti will be 30 months on Dec 11th and the past 2-3 months I have noticed her length growth is not a dramatically noticeable, but have noticed she is beginning to add girth or mass. Your girl is 6 months or less older than mine but yours is massively bigger. I have been figuring how much Nefi should weigh for her length and age. Nefi gets 3 large rats every 10 days. The last time I weighed her, I put her around my neck and weighed us both on bathroom scales then weighed just myself then subtracted for her weight. It came out she weighed 13 pounds. She is in the 8 1/2 foot range. To me 13 pounds at that length is too light. I posted this awhile back and some guy(mjf I think) said, in general, I was starving her until I posted a pic of her. Please let me know what you think on this. Your opinions and suggestions are eagerly welcomed Happy Holidays Ben!

I actually noticed more of that a little sooner, my Yellows have tended to be pretty chubby though, haha. I would say the length started to slow down at about a year and a half. Yellows don't tend to be lengthy in the long run, so it's expected. I feed both of mine an xxl rat every 6 days, it's worked out fine. There isn't really an average size a yellow should be in a certain time span though, every snake will grow at it's own rate. You can usually tell if a snake is underweight, it will have a lot of loose skin and probably some bone showing through. I can't really tell you the average weight of an 8' yellow, because all I would really have to go by is mine, and I just don't have enough sources for it.

But my only suggestion would be to keep it on a more solid schedule, if it can take 3 large rats, then I would go ahead and just bump it up to a Xl (Jumbo) Rat, maybe keep it on a 7-8 day if you want to.

Hope that helps some, let me know if you need some more info! Happy holidays to you as well!

I understand about the lack of sources for info. As far as Nefi goes she does not have any loose skin nor any bones showing. I plan on bumping up her foods size when I exhaust these large rats. I have thought either jumbo rats or medium rabbits. I'll try the regimen ya suggest and see how it goes. I looked at your site last night. Looks great! That patternless yellow is weird looking. When I first saw the pics the first thing that came to my mind was a patternless green burm. LOL Have a good one Ben and thanks for the advice

If she looks good, then she most likely is good. Good luck with her! Thanks for the comments on my site as well, I'm actually in the process of building a new one, it's just taking forever! Apprently the patternless yellow actually carries an almost identical gene as the green burm, weird how that one worked out!
