ol! Dangit, I saw a few nonlocales from Mike171 from South Texas Reptiles in the store right before I went out for the last time in October and said if it doesn't happen this year I will get one, saw tons of snakes but none with the alterna factor in 'em! Had a great time kickin'it with the Forkinater but I had to admit it, tail tucked between my legs! So I picked up this male from Mike and I'm glad I did. It gave me more insight into the probs some have feeding them. It wouldn't eat pinks, even scented with some scelops I brought home, but he jumped all over some cnemidophorus that I had. Ate two, one very small and one not so small for his first meal. I will keep him up this winter till Jan. if he feeds and put him down for 6 weeks and see if he wants to change his tune. I don't recommend others doing it but I wanted a meal in him.
I have a lot of respect for all who work with this species, as it requires a lot of patience to turn 'em sometimes. I have converted both of my longnoses so I have faith that he will turn. Cute little bugger, planning my '07 season and praying for a wet winter. I have some pics of some habitat shots from this year to download for the where am I game later on in the season.

If that guy has not eaten a scented pink yet, then it is the only one I have produced this year, that has yet to do so. All of the other 20-something have eaten a pink or two on their own, if not more than that. I will be in Austin this coming weekend with some more, that are eaters if you or anybody is interested.

Mike, I am thoroughly pleased with my snake, it could be a heating issue, and is not a problem. No slight to you intended, please don't misunderstand me. I am happy to have the opportunity to work with a gbk, and consider you a good guy! That being said, I will continue to work with this guy and get him on track. I presume I would have had the same deal no matter which snake I chose. I do have some scelops and some skinks and will get him there!

Todd,
No offense intended, I did not mean it to sound like that, I'm just suprised it has not eaten yet, as all my others have by now. It may be heating, I am keeping all my others between 80-85 right now. So that might be the reason. Let me know how it works out, and maybe Ill see you at the BAHA meeting next week.

Can't tell if the pic @ the bottom's a longnose. You oughta post some pics of 'em. Longnoses are one of the species I was hoping to see last year, esp. the clarus phase. Do you find those among your local TX specimens? Those'd be worth giving a shot to as a captive. I saw 1 last year, a DOR clarus phase down in Borrego Springs. Pity! Man, I'm prayin' right along w/ you for that wet winter! Try not to go stir crazy during the dry herpin' months. Spring'll be here soon.

Yeah she is a longnose with a really pale washed out red that is pink. My male is a screamin' Texas l.n. with fire engine red. They are both on mice now but it will be '08 before I put them together, they aren't locality but are from Texas!

well if you want to find alterna quit hunting the grassland with me! haha Next time I'm going to drop you off at the spot with a two radio and no snake bag, you stay until you find what you are looking for, no soup for you!

(places order, shuffles back in line) LOL! I am happy with what I have, it was an adventure in wonderland! OOOH, look what I found in your armoire!( I am gonna post all your secret spots so EVERYONE can have all your wonderful soup!)I guess it was a rant about my inability to get it together, I hunted several times solo as well, I just wasn't seeing them before they saw me! I can only imagine how many gbk's I didn't see because of not having the eye, but I certainly put in the miles! I will quit [bleep]in' and eat my cake and be really glad when the frosting comes....NEXT YEAR!!!!

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but...

It's the thrill of the chase, not the capture, that counts. Sounds like you had a great time looking and that's what counts. Heck, I still haven't found a live GBK (of course I've probably only spent 50 looking since moving here three years ago).

Back when I lived in Dallas, my brother teased me about making repeated failed trips at hundreds of dollars each to look for a snake that I could buy for under $200. Then I asked him how much he paid for the shotgun that he used for hunting doves with 1-2 oz breasts, or the bass boat that he used for catching 3lb fish. He quickly shut-up.

Also, that CB you got looks great!
