Question about Bairds Locals????????????

FireDrake Dec 03, 2006 09:25 AM

I have 1.1 hwy 277 bairds that I just absolutly LOVE, they are so beautiful... anyways they have me thinking about getting other locals. A long time ago, I saw a picture of a bairds that made me fall for them, I remember that it was all silver with a golden head and neck. It didnt have blotches or anything, a solid colored snake. I wasnt even sure if it had the orange skin or not. Is this a real snake I am thinking of, or am I crazy?

Also, is there a good website that shows pictures of different locals?

thanks

Sarah

I don't know much about the different locales, but you might want to ask Tim at Vivid Reptiles. He has a photo of a gorgeous bairdi with a yellow head which is a parent to one of the babies i recently got from him. He also has babies from parents that have a huge amount of red and orange with a nice metallic overlay.

Anyway, Tim has gorgeous adults, very healthy babies, and is a true professional to work with, from start to finish.

I think the problem with comparing bairdi pics is that they look so different as juveniles and as adults. Also, many digital cameras tend to oversaturate the reds and therefore 2exaggerate the orange/red colors in the snake.

Also, is there a good website that shows pictures of different locals?

No, but there should be. I would love to see a website with locality bairdi shots.

Here are a pair of locality bairdi from the northeast part of their range.

female -

and an older male from the same locality -

oh...and here's what the same male snake looked the night I caught him with another brand of camera, just for comparison..

you also may want to check out a breeder on the KS breeder list called "Blackbelt Reptiles".
The breeder (TH) has 3 locality specific listings for Bairds.
