keeps regurgitating

RatSnakeRascal Dec 03, 2006 10:02 AM

well i bought an anery about a month ago, and it had been fed before shipping. a couple days after i recieved it it coughed up the mouse. well i just figured it was because the trip it had down here. so the temps dropped for a couple days here in florida and he wouldnt eat so i had to wait a few days. he finally ate, and now three days later hes coughed another mouse up. i dont know if its sick or what. its just lookin a little skinny and needs to eat, but just cant keep it down. (and yes the mice are of appropriate size for the snake.)

thanks

ok,
first thing you need to do is give the little guy eight to ten days before trying to feed again. (from last feeding attempt)
In the meantine check the temps to make sure they are not too high or too low. Either can cause problems.
After waiting the eight to ten days try feeding the smallest pinkie you can find. If you don't have any very small pinkies just try a pinkie head.
If it keeps this down wait about 7 days and feed another small pinkie or pinkie head again.
If it holds this down try another small pinkie or pinkie head
one more time.
If this works then go back to a regular feeding schedule with appropriate sized prey.

Yes, exactly what Jimmy has said. Also: Don't handle or otherwise "mess with" this snake at all until it has several feedings with no regurge. It is now stressed out to the max & needs R & R. Also: If this snake puked a couple of days after arriving, tell the seller asap. I would not think that any responsible seller would ship a baby corn on a full stomach, given the potential stress involved. If they did NOT feed the snake just before shipping, there may be something else wrong with the snake's ability to properly process food.

Follow Jimmy's advice. Don't jump the gun and feed too soon. THis will lead to disaster. Let the seller know exactly what is going on, perhaps even asking if they fed just prior to shipping. Good luck. Duffy

That is when I start the calendar clock going, not after the last feeding. Just my way of doing it, I figure that way the stomach acids get that much time to regenerate.

good point
from last regurge not last feeding as there can be a few days difference

sorry to hear it didn't make it.
Unfortunately some snakes just don't make it.
It could have been the fact it was a day late or it could have just been one that mother nature didn't intend to survive.
I don't remember but was that your only one?
If it was, don't let it discourage you. Sometimes it happens.

Was it shipped second day air or just late because of the holidays? This is a very bad time of the year to purchase anything living that has to be shipped. From personal bad experiences like yours I wont order anything after thanksgiving and until the temps warm up were I live.No carrier has a perfect track record during the holidays and I would call it reckless to even ship anything out now.Just my opinion.

My friend works at a pet store and they will get batches of 6-8 hatchling corn snakes in at a time and usually once every few shipments one will not eat. I agree with draybar - don't let it discourage you! I've gotten 2 in the same day, one will be a PIG and the other won't eat at all. Have you had success getting in touch with the owner about getting another one?
