florida box turtles

how do so many florida box turtles end up for sale on the classifieds i live im south fla and have not seen this many wild adults in the past five years and i live in the woods i am not accusing anyone of anything just wondering maybe the last hurricane blew them to california

One of the people, who owns a store in California, has a network of breeders who sell to him. One of the breeder just got out of boxies sold the breeders to him. Usually he only has the hatchlings and some juvies. He participates on a newsgroup that I subscribe to.

As for the other people I have no idea, but most seem to be hatchlings so they are probably raising them.
