bsleeper Dec 03, 2006 05:29 PM

Hey everyone I am buying two pairs of hets really soon a pair of het albino from the clark line and a pair of het pied from the Kahl line. I was just wondering what the major differences are in different lines and how many dif lines of Pied are there? Pics will be helpful also. Thanks.

most lines of pied available are kahl line pieds. there are a few pieds brought in from africa every now and then and they will be advertised as "new" line pied or such but they all should be compatable as are all lines of albino except lavender albino and caramel albino.

well there are several lines of pieds and albinos..
pieds have been know for a long time.. one of the first came in and was owned by brian sharp i think. Then the thinking was that it was a leucistic or partial leucistic.

the first person to produce pieds was my good friend peter kahl. But Ernie wagner also had a pied male early on and has since produced hets and pieds. Pete had seeral wild caught pieds from which he produced babies from, so even his line originalted from several unrelated animals.

there has ben pieds coming into the country every year as hatched or wild caught animals from babies to adults from africa. Now there is at least one breeder in africa producing and exporting pieds to the states.

albinos, same story. clark produced the first ones, but there has since been up to sometimes 5 albinos per year come in from africa. So there are many lines. Of course the lavender albinos, they look similar to normals but the compatibilty isnt really know at this point. They were first brought in as normal albinos.

Pieds and albinos arent sold by lines like pastels and other morphs are. You probably wont know which line you are buying unless you go direct to the original breeders.

Albino and lavender albino have been proven NOT to be compatible by at least a couple different breeders. They are both recessive but different.

who has had good eggs that have hatched from them? I remember pulling the first one out of the bag when it got here from africa and thinking man this is a pink colored albino... Havnt followed them much since that one and the one ralph got came in.

Can you give us the info on who has hatched double hets?

I spoke to MK reptiles in Mass. and Mike told me he hatched clutches of Het Lav to Het Albino in 06. He got no visibles. I can't remember the exact numbers and it was het to het but it was enough to make a very strong presumption that they are not compatible. I have also spoken to a couple of those that have visible lavenders in their collections and they have both told me "they have been proven non compatible". RDR has had a couple clutches of Lav x alb that have gone bad so no help there.

ya.. i had heard they werent, but i have never heard or seen double hets.. the het to het doesnt tell me anything.. so thats out.. ralph has has several clutches but eggs go bad every time.. leathal maybe.. So I would still be interested in any real data.. Obviously if they said it was compat then they wouldnt be such a high end animal..

My guess is they arent, but still would like to see double hets.

thanks for info
