I dunno if my corn really is a corn

jdheff82 Dec 03, 2006 09:09 PM

Hey all, my female corn, Akira, looks like a corn snake; but, a feature on her that doesn't match is the checker pattern on her belly. Her belly is completely white except for the outside edge that has a very condensed checker pattern. The pattern itself is black. Do I have a different rat snake? I don't have a way to take close up shots. The picture I have shows the pattern that meets up to her body pattern. Any ideas? Thanks!

you will need to post some better pic's to get an acurate answer to your question

Not all corns have checkered bellys. Striped, motley and bloodred often have plain white ventral surfaces. Like the others who posted said, we need more (and better) photos. It's quite possible that your have an anerythristic corn with some bloodred in its genes. "Partial" or "het" bloodreds often have a bit of checkering on the outer edges of the belly.

These aren't the greatest coming from a camera phone and her not knowing when to held still. Hope these shed a little more light. Thanks again!

that overhead head shot was what I was looking for, but it is dark and blurred. It does not appear to be a blood (diffused) anery, though. I am no expert on rat snakes. Maybe post over there and see if they think it might be everglades or a mix or something.

I'm starting figure out how this new camera phone works. I found out the best way to get good pics is to set it to burst mode. It'll then take 4 pics in 4 seconds. Makes it much easier to get better pics. I think I got a a good head shot for you this time. Still working on under belly tho. She won't hold still long enough to get a good pic in. Anyways, here you go.
