Just wondering if stones are needed for captive crocs to aid in digestion.
Thanks

Stones aid in the break down of hard material such as thicker bone and turtle shell. Generally, in captivity the animals will be fed things that are much softer such as chunk meat, rodents and as they get larger they can be fed rabbits, etc as an adult. Chicken breasts and such can also be fed. None of these items are hard to break down within the crocodilians stomach. Therefore, gastroliths will not be necessary within the enclosure of most captive specimens.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Hi Mike,

Glad I could help. I appreciate the compliments on my website. It is still far from being done and I am in the process of rewriting my Crocodilian Captive Management section as well as the Biology section. Be sure to check back on it in the next couple of weeks.

Take care,

Chris
