Breeding yellowtails...

Royreptile Dec 04, 2006 12:11 AM

I'm planning to acquire a pair of Yellowtails in the near future, and I would like to eventually breed them. I have a few questions. What is the average clutch size for a Yt? How many times could a female healthfully produce eggs in a year? This is keeping the upmost health of the snakes in mind.

YT Cribos normally produce between 15 - 30 eggs at oviposition, with 20 being the average. The eggs are quite small, by Drymarchon standards, but heavily calcified. Because of the resources required to produce such a large clutch, especially the amount of calcium utilized, I only pair my females once every other year, I keep 4.4 in order to pair 2.2 each year. However, I do know of a couple of breeders who pair their's up every year. also, I have not found any documentation of any members of the genus producing multiple clutches in a single year...

Best regards,

Jeff

That is what I thought. I would probably end up pairing mine every other year as you stated. Thanks for your information.
