The below is true; pet stores also sell to residents of neighboring jurisdictions. The Board of Zoning Appeals hears appeals of my decisions, so if someone wanted to appeal what you see below, that would be the process.

Subject: Code compliance concerning the keeping of exotic animals
Please tell me the below is a mistake. How can the city of Hampton ban
the keeping of exotic animals when most, if not all, pet stores IN the
city of Hampton sell exotic animals?
Thanks,
From the 311 website,
Is there any restriction on the kind of pet/animal I am allowed to have?
Yes. You are not allowed to have exotic animals or farm animals in the
City of Hampton. Snakes, such as boa constrictors, are considered to be
an exotic animal. However, you may have ONLY one pot bellied pig. This
decision is based on the Zoning Administrator's interpretation of the
law which allows domesticated animals - cats, dogs, horses and one pot
bellied pig - only in the city. Anyone disagreeing with this law is
free to appeal the decision with the Board of Zoning.
Can you have pythons in the City of Hampton?
No. Pythons are considered exotic animals and exotic animals are not
allowed in the city. This decision is based on the Zoning
Administrator's interpretation of the law - which only domesticated
animals - cats, dogs, horses and one pot bellied pig - are allowed in
the city. Anyone disagreeing with this law can appeal the decision to
the Board of Zoning.
Are citizens in Hampton allowed to have pigeons as pets or raise them
for
any purpose?
No. Citizens of Hampton aren't allowed to have pigeons. They are
considered exotic animals.
Can you have Coturnix quail also known as Japanese quail in the City of
Hampton
No. Quails are considered exotic animals and exotic animals are not
allowed in the city.
