Does my White's have mites?!

sporkytuun Dec 04, 2006 07:11 PM

I'm kind of a beginner when it comes to frogs, so bare with me...
I just got a White's tree frog and a Tomato Frog. I have them housed in the same terrarium. The tomato frog is very active, but recently the white's has spent all of his time - awake and asleep - in the water bowl. Their habitat is plenty humid, if not, maybe too humid... and the temperature is just above room temp. Then, I just noticed these little creme colored bugs... they are just about the same size and shape as snake mites, about twice as big as the period at the end of this sentence. Is this why my White's is soaking? If so, how do I get rid of them?
Thanks

I do not know about the mites situation. My WTF spends a lot of time at night in his water dish which I wondered about but he has grown fast and seems to be doing very well. Based on what I have read I would question keeping the Tomato Frog and the WTF together. They both have skin secretions that could be irritating to the other, but particularly the Tomato. It is very hard for me to do any major cleanup in my Tomato's tank without its swelling up and sweating a bunch of goo from its back. Good luck on finding the info you need.

I also question the frogs staying together. The tomato frog will probably outgrow your white's in no time and then the white's becomes a meal target and not a tank mate. You white's is most likely stressed from his tank partner. It is best if you seperate the two while you still have two frogs.

As for the bugs, what kind of substrate do you use? Are they crawling all over your frogs or just on the substrate? Can you give a more accurate description of your tank? Humid enough doesn't really explain much at all. It may be humid enough for the tomato frog but not the white's or so forth.
