first the pics:

Ok, my friends went to the Hamburg show and picked this baby up for me, because I had to go to an adirondack marten and fisher survey workshop.

Unfortunately they didn't get the name of the breeder, its hatch date, or gender. All the breeder said was it was on live pinkies.

Its now in a 5.5 gallon with a locking screen lid,on paper towel with a small heat pad, 2 tight hides, and a water bowl.

He ate the first F/t pinky with a little hesitation, but after he was done he was still in hunting mode so i gave him another.

it was funny cause he took it backwards so the arms got caught...

anyway, i'm assuming i should wait till it defecates before feeding it again, correct?

also, what kind of growth rate can i expect? its an apricot campbelli if you couldnt tell in the pics.

also, im going to add a humid hide, is it better on the hot or cool side?

thanks

Nice Pueblan!

It sounds like you've got a good setup. I don't use "humid hides" with my Pueblans - it could be good to put one on the warm side when the snake is going through a shed cycle, but they really don't need them for everyday living.

I usually feed my babies/subadults every 5 days. As far as growth, Pueblans are relatively small, averaging 28-32 inches as adult. I'd say yearlings would average 18-20 inches.

There was a ton of nice animals at hamburg this weekend... And, because it was not crowded compaired to other hamburg shows i have been to, it was a buyers market for sure!

I have never used humid hides.. What i do is this, a day or two before the snake is ready to shed i spill some water out of the water dish onto the newspaper substrate. That raises the the humidity and all of my animals shed out in one piece with no problems..

thanks for the replys!

Well, I added a humid hide, and when i went looking for him just now, i found him inside.

I figure in the wild, he could have access to humid burrows at all times, so why not give him a cool hide, a warm hide, and a humid hide.

Just my opinion but; lose the paper towel. get a large plastic hide box or cork bark. try aspen bedding or cyprus mulch; these guys like to burrow. Next spring move to a larger plastic cage. About 24" long and 6-8" high.

i'm planning on giving him a loose substrate eventually, but right now i want to monitor his defecation closely, make sure there are no problems, and learn his schedule.

also, why would i use a plastic box over a tank?

this is a display animal in my dorm, and i plan on building a large DIY cage this summer.
