They are protected(listed as appendix 1 in C.I.T.E.S.). Check out www.mampam.com for info on monitor lizards. Did you see them on animal planet? They are beautiful and amazing creatures!

I have seen them up close at the Dreyher Park Zoo in Florida and at Busch Gardens in Florida. They are magnificent creates. The keeper at the zoo did a wonderful presentation on them while standing in their enclosure (these were younger specimens). Our zoo in Wisconsin does not have them.

Yes that's exactly what it was - bunny. Though the photo was taken in Australia, we also have Komodos here at the Denver Zoo and in fact, the zoo successfully hatched out its first 2 babies this year. The babies are amazingly active with bright yellow markings.
