feeding questions

johnnymo Dec 05, 2006 09:27 PM

how are you guys feeding your frogs? Im seeing these elaborate vivs that are lush in plants and moss and water features and im thinking how do the frogs find the tiny fruit flys? Im not very familiar with the behavior of fruit flys but im assuming that once they are dumped in the viv they scurry around and hide under leaves and crevices making it hard to find them. Do any of you feed your frogs in a seperate container to observe how much they are eating? or do you just kind of dump a bunch of flies in there and hope the frogs are finding them?

I've never done it before but from what I've seen the frogs are eager to get to them and do a pretty good job lapping them up. Also fruit flys are so small that if they get die and start to rot its not that big of a deal. Some people use a small tray or bowel with the flys down in it and the frogs get trained to eat out of the bowel, this works well with termites too.

Like I said I have no personal experience but since no one else will answer I gave it my best shot!

good question, and unless you've seen it, what you're saying would make more sence. for some reason the fruit flies go in really obvious sport, like on glass or on the tips of plant leaves. this is exactly the opposite of what crix do. FF really arn't too smart, even for a bug. they also are almost constantly miving, so easy for the darts to find that way too.
