Hello

Even though I am not a dart frog person, I happened to be cruising this forum for some reason. I am a gecko person, however, and I have heard of people keeping small geckos with their frogs. I don't think you would have any problem keeping the phelsuma klemmeri with your frogs, as they will eat fruit flies even as adults I am told. If I were you I might consider getting a small nocturnal gecko though, as they will be active at different times than your frogs and eat up the left over insects. I am a fan of mixed species vivariums and I say go for it.

very cool. I am also a fan of mixed vivs as long as they work. do you have any mixed vivs? and if you do what do you keep in them?

i personally don't see how it's possible. darts eat fruit flies=galss top. phlesuma's all need UVB which doesn't go through glass tops.

Ive kept both species together with much success, although I did limit myself. I kept a mated pair of frogs and mated pair of phelsuma, no over crowding!! They were mainly 40 gallon talls, and I made sure the soil was seeded with springtails for the darts down below. The phelsuma will need UV and i accomplished that by fitting the center of the tank with mesh rather than the glass piece and my UV bulb ran along that mesh to provide UV for both the moss, plants and geckos. I got the geckos to eat from tweezers and hand feed them mealworms and waxworms. The darts ate springtails down low, the geckos ate meal and waxworms up top, I then would load the tank with fruitflies 2 or 3 times a week. the dart would have a field day with the flies and any that made a run for it up top were quickly caught by the geckos. If you can somehow contact me I can show you exactly what i mean. Both species prolifically bred continuously. id even miss eggs from time to time and just end up catching view of tiny geckos hidden among the top corners or in the bromeliads.

rad. What species of darts and phelsuma did you keep? How did you get your geckos to accept food from your hands? The large majority of day geckos i have come in contact with were quite skittish when a hand came into the tank.

sorry for the late response....had to get my vegas fix in before the end of the year. i kept phelsuma laticauda or golddust day geckos in with leucomelas or bumble bee dart frogs. in the other tank i kept phelsuma guimbeaui or orange spotted day geckos along with azureus or blue dart frog. the goddust bred so much i think they were used to me having my hands in there nipping at leaves and stalks to pull the egss with. it got to the point to where i could hold out a waxwork with tweezers at the head with enough pressure to make them wiggle would would attract the geckos over. the orange spotteds took a while to get acostumed to that. in their case i cut a notch deep enough into the basking branch so that i could drop them into the notch and act as a tray. they would come up and snatch them out of the groove. it took about 7 or 8 months for the orange spotted to begin to take them from my hands, as where the golddust maybe about a month or so at the most. it helps tremendously if you raise them from hatchings because you can get them used to the sight of you and you working in or on the tank. let me know if you have anymore questions.
