In the event of a power outage...

sheshanaga Dec 06, 2006 12:33 PM

So I got to thinking with all this talk of proper temperatures, hot and cool hides, etc...what would happen to a corn snake in the event of an extended power outage during the winter months?

If the temps in my house were to drop to the high 40's overnight and stay that way for a half day, would they be in danger?

It could be... the 40's is low for corns. If you think that going to be an issue you can keep a pile of 40 hour heat pads around and you could pack you animals into cloth bags and put them in a styro lined box till the power comes back on..

i have several family members that live near me so i have options, but i always keep some heat pads around just in case.

I also wouldnt feed them if there were a power outtage b/c if you feed them and its cold they have a better chance of regurg.

I brumate my snakes at 45 to 47 so temps in the mid 40's for a day or two wouldn't be too serious but if it got any lower then the mid 40's I would try to find some way to warm them.
Keeping the heat pads on hand is a good idea.
