Probably big problem

Bushmaster Dec 06, 2006 05:59 PM

My albino female leo copulated last 15, november, and last thursday she started with a laying behavior, burrowing in the humid moss and positioning as she wants to lay, but nothing comes out. Since sunday this behavior stopped and I think she may be with egg-binding. Yesterday and today I am giving her calcium in oral way and soaking her in warm water, still sucessless. Can she still lay the eggs or should I take more attitudes? I am thinking about to try oxitocin in next friday if things doesnt go better. Should I wait more?

Yes! Please wait more. Patience is the key.
Questions: Can you see the eggs?
Are you a herp vet?
Are you aware that oxitocin can be harmful if your leo is still developing her eggs?
Please wait or take her to the vet.
IMHO

For how long should I wait? One ogg is clearly seen throught her belly, the other not so. I am not a vet and unfortunately theres no specialist near me, anyway I'll ask help when dealing with this. I am ware of the problems in ocitocin use, but I think is good if there is no other way. And about egg punction? How this is done?
Thanks man

well if there is only one it may not be an egg at all! you dont know this! dont act yourself! is your animal eating? does it look healthy? if the answere is yes then i wouldnt worry about it. sometimes it just looks like an egg but it really isnt. my gecko wasnt eating, she was with a male, it looked like she had eggs, and she stopped eating. she never layed any eggs and she stopped eating. i thought she was eggbound! i took her to the vet and he had to do surgery. IT WAS NOT EGGS!!! it was an ifection in her ovaries! they had to be removed. the moral of the story is dont treat for something like this unless your are a vetrinarian! I had to drive far to get her fixed but it was better then killing her!

Sorry, but this is not the case. I am not a vet but I am a biologist. I am pretty sure shes pregnant. I saw they copulating and I felt the egg in her belly. I think one of them cracked in her oviducts. I f this hapened theres anything can be done?

Why do you keep asking questions if you are going to do whatever you want. You are questioning every single advice. Do what you want. Ohhh by the way, you are not a herp vet, you are a biologist. So stop this crap about medicating your leo without knowing whats going on with him.

Sorry if I may look stupid, but I really guess what is happening, but not how to resolve. I am not from USA, so unfortunately there is nobody can help me..I must resolve it by myself.

Please understand that we are mostly a group of hobbyists, who care greatly for our herps and would never think of getting anything other than the best care we could for them. To us, that means a good vet, not just playing doctor ourselves.

That being said, we have given you all the information we can: take it to a vet or give her some more time. Egg binding in something that happens and you should have been prepared for it, or a least had a plan, or a vet, before you let her breed. (She probably wasn't ready to breed for some reason, hence the egg binding or worse.) You seem to be sticking to your own diagnosis and your own method of treatment. In that case, you should be looking to speak with a vet to give you instructions on you treatment. Even the researchers who work on leos don't do their own operations, but instead have a herp specialist on call. There must be a vet message board out there somewhere if you have no other contact method.

Also, it would help to find a different translation program. It is very hard to read you posts, and for me, that makes it hard to understand your question and offer help. I sure if you are also running ours through it, it may be cause for a lot of misunderstanding and I wouldn't want that for the sake of the gecko. Good luck.
