Aurora: Capturing children's imaginations is better than capturing snakes, local lawmakers said Dec. 4.
The Aurora City Council voted to allow residents to keep non-venomous snakes between 3- and 6-feet-long, and also added a provision that allows educators to obtain a $25 permit to keep a snake longer than six feet for teaching purposes.
The vote wasn't unanimous as fears were voiced about the danger of allowing the reptile inside city limits.
"I wonder what might happen if they run amok and attack a small animal," said Councilwoman Renie Peterson, who voted against the changes to a previous, stricter ban.
This wasn't the first time lawmakers tried banning animals from the city. Last year, the city banned certain breeds of fighting dogs in Aurora.
