it is a good idea to skip a feeding about once a week. is this true? supposedly it helps to clean a geckos system out. i haven't tried this but it seems like an idea that might help. i don't plan to try unless i get feedback supporting this.

My adult geckos actually eat every other day. I try feeding them the day after a feeding and they refuse food. However this is probably because they're all fairly heavy bodied. I havn't heard of skipping a feeding to clean out a geckos system though, I personally would just feed your gecko however much it normally eats, and it's digestive system will do the rest. I hope this helps! -The Geckofanatic

Adults can be fed once every three days. I have a 91 grams normal phase leopard gecko and I only feed him once every three to four days.

Do we skip meals to clean us out? NO... I would allow your leo to ea as much as he/she wishes. Just like any animal they know their limits when it comes to things like that. As long as what your feeding is healthy you will have a healthy leo.
I feed my little guy everytime he wants food which seems to be 2 times a day. He is 1.5 months old and eats about 5-10 mealies a day 1" in size and he is doing great.
A skipped feeding will not 'clean out' a leopard gecko. If there are any issues in the gecko, this will not help.
It's best to feed normally (once every other day) and watch for problems. If you have a gram scale, take a reading every couple of weeks. It only takes a second. If you find the gecko's weight decreasing, you need to take action.
Note that in the winter, leopards may show a decreased appetite- especially if the temperatures to their enclosures drop.
