Smithi influence?

rearfang Dec 07, 2006 03:37 PM

Picked up another oddy. This one (2') has a head (simply put) that looks very smithi. The blck head band stops in a straight line in the prefrontals the snout is white-stained orange. There is black intrustion in the white body bands (though on the venter they are remarkably clean and uninterupted. The one thing that doesn't add up is there are 13 red body rings.

Will post pics as soon as I process them.

Wish You would post a full body shot. The 13 red band count is perfect siniloan and so is the shot under the chin with the first black band crossing over in a "v" shape.Allot of siniloans have white snouts.
Whats the story behind it?

Thanks Shannon

p.s. you can't really go by the smithi pic in the Markel book cause that snake was actually collected who knows were and was sold to a dealer in Mexico City.Real smithi look like andeans actually.

I'd have to argue Nelsons x?

The proportions on the red bands is twice the bwb ratio. What throws me here is the clean cut on the snout between the orange snout and the first black head band also the reduction on the sides of the head on that black.

Scott mentioned that some of the snout color might be heal over, but in life there is no sign at all of rubbing.

My question here (based on what maps I see) is do Nelson's and Smithi ranges contact. If so, might this be an intergrade between them?

By the way, I got it at Underground reptiles so it likely was from Strickly Reptiles.

Someone really needs to write a new book. My reference library...which I thought was good, is becoming more and more obsolete....

Here you can see why this snake caught my eye. The first shot is a definite sinoloan. The second shot is our snake in question.

Ok....That was the Pearl island Boa form of milk(LOL)

Here is what i believe to be a typical sini head. Note the mottled snout and the more extensive black head band. Also, the lack of black spotting on the white neck band.

Frank,
nelsoni and smithi don't even come close to meeting in the wild.about the only thing that intergardes with smithi is for sure polyzona and possibly annulata or a three way. They do touch with dixoni but I have never heard of one and they also just touch with campbelli in western veracruz.

Anyway, thats also why I thought that the other weird milk you posted could be a poly x smithi.polyzona and hondurensis do not meet.

Anyway,I used to keep allot of siniloans (about 30 adults) and that one you post is a dead ringer. If it were nelsoni the chin band wouldn't cross the bottom of the chin or if it did it would be straight and ver narrow. That snake has a perfect textbook siniloan chin band on the bottom with the thick v shape. The fact that it has some tipping in the first white/yellow ring is not a indication of it being anything but siniloan.

Anyway,I could be wrong but I would say 100% everyday siniloan.

After a lot of close going over...We pretty much decided that what ever this snake is...is the result of c/b by people. Which means it could be anything thrown in. Very disapointing.

As to the other. Poly x ? That is beyond a doubt a w/c snake so what ever is in there is nature made.
