need new enclosure help

reamk924 Dec 07, 2006 04:11 PM

I just got a new sav in day before yesterday. He is in a small cage right now. He will either be fostered by me for a rescue group or will be here permanently depending on how he progresses, as he has a bit of an attitude. I want to build him his own enclusure, but need dimensions. He is 24", give or take. Is UVB as pertinent to them as it is to iguanas? I think he is a bit on the hefty side too.

Thanks

get a copy of Bennett's Savannah Monitor book, available at our site, or on the classifieds here. it covers all the husbandry info that you need to know, and will get you where you need to be. the basic, open questions that you are asking are not short and simple to answer : )

UVB is only important if your animal is not getting the calcium it needs in its diet. I believe that is true with iggies too and even applies to mammals. The most important part is providing the correct temps so that it can digest properly and get the calcium from what it is eating.
