4" Flexwatt buzz

airtrixx Dec 07, 2006 05:27 PM

I normally use the 11" flexwatt with the flexwatt clips and insulators. Recently i bought a 4' section of 4" with all the same hardware. I just hooked up the 4" stuff and plugged it in and noticed a electrical buzzing noise (very faint) coming from the entire piece (ie the connection end all the way to the opposite end). Is this normal? There is no such buzzing coming from any of my 11" stuff.

Thanks

Yeah it is normal. The 11-inch will do it too. All depends on how the heater is attached or layed down, what it is attached to, the humidity in the air (drier air may mean more hum), etc.

If you lay it on sheet metal, the electric field can store a small voltage on the metal, like a capacitor. Too small for harm or danger, but you get the point. All normal phenomenon for any alternating current device that is flat or coiled. No danger.

You hit it right on the nose man, i have a large melamine box to store my larger boa. In order to keep too much heat from passing thru the roof of the large box i put down two strips of aluminium tape and the flexwatt on top of that and sterilite boxes on top.

Thanks for the help
